My First Year on the West Coast

Well folks, it has been a full year since I arrived on Vancouver Island and its been pretty amazing. There really isn't much else to say, so here are a few of my favorite shots from the past year, showcasing the beauty of the West Coast. These first few photos were taken in North Saanich where I lived when I first moved to Vancouver Island. The water was about a 10 minute walk from my house, and I spent many hours walking along the water at low tide.

I was taking photos along the water in Sidney, when a passerby told me there was a Blue Heron on the other side of the rocks. Showcasing my lack of ninja-stealth skills, I managed to scare the bird as I clamored over top of the rocks. I did capture this one as he flew away though.

Close up of some Cherry Blossoms on the University of Victoria campus.

A path at Thetis Lake surrounded by Arbutus trees (also known as the Madrona, depending on where you live)

These two shots were taken on a hike with some friends out in Goldstream Park. The first is the Goldstream Trestle, and the second is Niagra Falls, Vancouver Island, BC.

A float plane that had just landed in Victoria's beautiful Inner Harbour, followed by a shot of the Legislative Buildings (also along the Inner Harbour).

I was in Vancouver for a few days and met up with some photographers in Gastown. We spent the afternoon walking around snapping photos, and eventually ended up in this awesome parking garage.

Shot from the Fisgard Lighthouse across the Salish Sea towards the Olympic Mountains.

Taken from the Selkirk Bridge on the Galloping Goose Trail, overlooking the Gorge Waterway in Victoria.

I had the opportunity to photograph a wedding on San Juan Island, Washington in May with my friend Shannon Lee Schureman. I snapped this photo of Friday Harbor as I was on the ferry headed home.

From the top of Mt. Douglas, a view of Cordova Bay, San Juan Island, and Mt. Baker in the distance.

A rare shot of the ever-elusive Victoria, BC snowfall, taken in the beautiful community of Oaklands.

These last five photos were taken on my recent trip up to the Comox Valley to spend Christmas with my girlfriend's family. This first shot was taken from Comox, looking across to Courtenay and the Comox Glacier towering behind.

These next two shots were taken at Seal Bay Regional Nature Park. Some Heron's were chilling on a rock, taking in the view of the Coastal Mountain Range.

A military plane coming in for a landing at CFB Comox.

The first photo was taken near the Shipwrecks in Royston and the second shot was taken at the Comox Bay Marina.
