The Zone 91.3 Band of the Month Showcase 2

On Friday night, Upstairs Cabaret played host to The Zone's second Band of the Month Showcase. With The Grass Tracks, Carmanah, and Towers and Trees all playing, it was sure to be a good night. For the first time in a long time, I went to the show as a fan and not as an official photographer. Of course, I couldn't resist taking my camera along with such good performers.

CMCT Presents: FallBrigade, Noah Edwards Band, and Colin McTaggart

In a rare acoustic sighting, Colin McTaggart (CMCT himself) started the show off at Lucky Bar with a great set. I met Colin while shooting at CMCT Studios at Rifflandia this year, and he is a fantastic guy. His acoustic set was a perfect way to get the show going. Following him up was the FallBrigade. I was very impressed with the fullness of their sound, it was like being surrounded by a warm hug. The Peak Performance Project Top 20 artists just released their new EP Greater North, which I would strongly recommend picking up, and definitely head out to see them as soon as you can.

Closing out the early evening show was the Noah Edwards Band. Noah Edwards has been a very busy man this year. Not only did he just release an EP as well, but he is also the front man of two other bands, SYN{A}PSE and Icosian. Even though he's been busy, it didn't effect the performance, as it was a great finale to end the night.

Rifflandia 2013

If you've never been to Rifflandia, you are missing out. Taking place over 4 days this September, over 175 artists played at 13 different venues across Victoria. This year I managed to catch some artists I've been wanting to see for a long time (Watsky, Classified, Stars), see some bands that I've been meaning to see again (Bloody Wilma, woolworm) and discovered some new favourites as well (Towers and Trees, Bear Mountain, The Fortunate Isles).

The following shots are my favourite from the entire weekend.

Rock of the Woods 2013

Back in 2011, I photographed the very first Rock of the Woods. Skip a year, and I was back at it again in 2013. I was there for all of Day 2 (Saturday) and the first few groups on Day 3 (Sunday). I learned a few important things this year: 1. The Cowichan Valley is HOT! 2. You can drink too much water and still be dehydrated 3. Food trucks can make some damn good poutine. 4. I love good live music (I already knew this, but it's good to be reminded) 5. Fly Moon Royalty is amazing

What you see above are my favourite shots from the day and a half I was there.
