Tim and Becky: Engaged in Victoria

Meet Tim and Becky. They are engaged, in love, and super cute together. They both ride bikes, drink coffee and enjoy the ocean. Tim indulges in writing and Becky makes awesome jewelry, which is available at rebeccasimone. This shoot has an extra twist- it is my first portrait session shot on film. Without getting too geeky (that will come in a later post), I shot this with two different film cameras, a Nikon FE and my Grandpa's old medium format Yashica-D. I used multiple types of film as well. Thanks to Tim and Becky for being such great test subjects. This was an awesome experience, and I am hoping for more chances to shoot with film in the future.

My Second Roll of Film: Kodak Ektar 100

I should preface this entire post with the fact that I started into photography back in 2004 with a digital camera. I had never shot film previous to last year. Back in the summer, I happened across a Nikon FE at a garage sale for $5. Owning a Nikon DSLR and a few film-friendly lenses, I snapped it up. The first roll of film I ran through it was Ilford XP2 400. I wasn't overly happy with the results, partly due to underexposing most of the shots and mis-loading the film. It was nice to see that the camera worked though. For my second roll, I decided to try a film that was a little different. Enter the Kodak Ektar 100. Kodak touts that it's the "World's Finest Grain" in a color negative. I was told it's great for scenery and landscape work, as it has high colour saturation. I started the roll back in the fall as the leaves started to change and just finished it up the other day. I really liked how the photos turned out.

I am definitely falling in love with shooting film and plan on shooting much more in the future.
